Power-Less Day!

We knew a few weeks ago that today our power would be off between 8am and 4pm while poles were upgraded in the next street.
The girls are fortunately at dancing for a good chunk of Saturdays so I only wanted to find a couple of extra things to do instead of sitting inside when the temperature outside was expected to reach 35 deg.

So before dancing, we checked out the opening of a local primary school (not the one our girls attend) community garden. It was pretty busy when we arrived just after 9am. I managed to pick up a few things but not as much fresh produce as I would have liked, However we all had a good time.

Most of the primary schools here now have vegetable gardens and chickens. The classes all spend time working outside which I think is fantastic. I would have loved this when I was at school!

While the girls were at dancing, I came home and packed a picnic. We headed to Churchman Brook up in the hills. The heat was pretty fierce though, even with a breeze and the flies ... oh boy!

By the time we got home just before 4:30pm the power had been restored! Hooray!!! Hope you all had a happy Saturday too!!!

Catching Up!

We caught up with my brother Warwick today, who was over here from NZ with 7 of his students (and another teacher and 2 parents) for the finals of the Tournament of Minds Competition (you can read more about it here ) It was his first time and Perth and as he goes home tomorrow we chose today to catch up (it was really the only day we could get together in his 4 day stay) As he was staying in Fremantle, we started off there with lunch and then he and the girls went for a ride on the ferris wheel. We took him back to our house in the afternoon and drove on a scenic drive through the hills and bush, then back to Freo for dinner! A great catch-up and great day out in the sunshine!

Just beautiful

With a huge Katy Perry fan in the house, it was lovely to see Katy with this gorgeous little girl.

The End

We wrapped up the spring break today with a trip to the ice skating rink. The girls love going there and since we hadn't been there for ages we thought it was a good idea. We have all enjoyed the holidays, I can't believe Term Four starts tomorrow. Kate's last term at this school. Swimming lessons start tomorrow for almost 2 weeks, so will have very tired kids each night I imagine.

Thursday

Late trip to local park
We were supposed to have one extra tonight (Kate's friend)  but then Amie and the kids came up for tea prior to picking up Brendan from the airport only to have his flight cancelled due to a fault with the aircraft. So with four extras in the house and two of them noisy kids, it's a pretty hectic house tonight. I'm off now to watch a movie with them. Wish me luck and peace.

Hump Day!

We didn't go out until mid-afternoon today as I woke not feeling the best. The girls had an appointment to get their hair trimmed (Ella also got her fringe cut back in) and the lovely hairdressers braided their hair for them after which was lovely. We finished off our lazy day with some exercise while Phil cooked dinner.

School Holidays - Week Two

It was a pretty quiet day again. Ella and her friend played quietly all morning until I dropped Karri home.I spent every moment I could out in the beautiful sunshine. The garden is coming along nicely, everything growing at a fast rate. We picked up Kate mid-afternoon and headed to an appointment at Specs Savers to get their eyes tested (which was fully covered by Medicare) and to choose new frames. They both got two pair each (both covered through our PHI) so in total 4 pair for no extra charge. Now just to wait a week or so until they are ready!

Our very first day of 4 eggs
snowpeas
silverbeet
tomatoes
beetroot

Lazy Sunday

We've had a pretty lazy day today. We were up late last night watching rugby and then up early this morning watching another game. Phil then sat on the couch until the middle of the afternoon watching Bathurst. I made our usual Sunday pancakes for breakfast. Some pottering outside. Then a lovely nap! I took the girls shopping to get a present for Kate to take to her friends birthday sleepover tonight. Called into Bunnings to buy a Wisteria to grow up against the chicken coop. Came home and Phil planted the tree, I dropped Kate at her friends, Ellas friend got dropped off here for a sleepover. Phil cooked dinner and I'll clean the kitchen in a little while. A lovely relaxing day!

I hope your Sunday was a good one!

The Last Egg

We finally have all four of our chooks laying with Muffin being the last to start. We thought today would be the day when she kept going in and out of the nesting box. Kate was a happy wee camper to collect it.
