This is what we experienced yesterday!

Perth's warm spring dayBEACH WEATHER: Perth is experiencing its warmest start to spring in 18 years. Picture: Kerris Berrington Source: PerthNow

JUST five days after a hailstorm and a maximum of 15.9C, the mercury has almost reached 30C as Perth has its warmest start to spring in 18 years.

The temperature reached 29.2C at 12.45pm this afternoon, which is 9C above the September average.
Perth has not experienced warm weather like this in early September since 1994 when also on September 9 the mercury reached 29.5C.
However, the onset of a sea breeze quickly cooled the temperature back to 25C.

The unusually warm early September weather comes after a string of very cool days in Perth this week.

I'm not looking forward to summer at all!

Off to the Theatre!

We went to see Annie today, along with a few families from our dancing school as one of Kate and Ella's dancing friends was in the cast - as orphan Friday! We all enjoyed the show very much. The girls got tee shirts signed after the show by their friend, the other orphans and Annie!
Before the show we waited in the lobby after purchasing goodies

This is their dancing friend who played orphan Friday with their dance teacher! I didn't manage to get a photo of her with the girls unfortunately!

SPORTS CARNIVAL 2012

Wednesday saw Ella compete in the long jump, 200mtrs and 400mtrs, and Kate in the long jump. You had to make it through to the top 8 to compete. Very proud of them both.

Today was the rest of the events. Ella participated in A division, but didn't end up placing individually, her team came third in the relay event. Kate participated in the B division and placed second! Well done girls!

Visitors!

We've had my niece and her partner staying from Auckland which has been lovely! The girls love having visitors to stay, showing them their school, their dancing memorabilia, their local hangouts etc! Danielle & Kai were only here for a very short time so we gave them a car and they had a look around themselves. The weather was mostly terrible, next time they need to come in summer! I only remembered right before school drop-off this morning I need to get a photo with the kids. Then I only got one, and silly me didn't check to see if it was ok, so Danielle actually blinked at the wrong time :(

18mths on ...

Some days it only seems like yesterday Dad passed away, other days it seems like a lifetime ago. Alot has happened in the past 18mths, some good, more not so good. While looking through some photos today, I came across these favourite photos of mine that were taken on a trip back to NZ in April 2004. Those happy family times are a distant memory :(

No-Stir Tomato Risotto

From this book we made this yummy risotto that was enjoyed by everyone!

1 Tbsp olive oil
25g butter
1 onion, finely chopped
250g arborio rice
500ml chicken stock
250ml tomato passata
1 tsp sugar
2 Tbsp basil leaves

Heat a large heavy-based saucepan over medium heat. Add the olive oil, butter and onion and season with sea salt. Cook until the onion is translucent, stirring occasionally. Add the rice and stir for a few minutes, until the grains glisten.

Increase the heat to high and add the stock, tomato passata and 375ml boiling water. Bring to the boil, stirring occasionally.

Reduce the heat to low, then cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender. Remove from the heat, stir in the sugar and serve scattered with the basil.

Enjoy!

Eggs

As you can see by the photo, Omelettes second egg was quite a bit bigger than the first! That first egg is so cute though, too good to eat! Phoebe's eggs are definitely a rounder shape and much heavier!

It's very satisfying having delicious eggs from your own chooks!
