Finally ...

We have been watching, waiting, watching some more, checking daily for a sign that they were ripening. Just last night I googled late into the night on information on when I might expect ours to be ready. And today there was 2. One big that just fell off into my hand, and a smaller one on the ground. Both were delicious. Worth waiting for.

Take Two

It was back to Adventure World today (got to love season passes) where we met up with one of Ella's friends and her family. Kate bought her friend along for company and her friends sister. The place was pretty packed, but not too hot!

A word on eggs!

The chickens have slowed down a bit with their laying (and understandably so!) as it's just too hot.

Yesterday, with a predictable high of 44 deg, I had a stern word with them first thing in the morning to have the weekend off ...

I told them they needed to reserve their energy for the coming days (today will be 41 deg)

They did some little clucking noises, I thought they understood ...

They mostly all understood ...

When I hosed the coop down an hour after our talk, I saw Sweet Girl hiding away from the World, she really wasn't listening!

Others thought about it, but thought they should listen to the master...

at 3pm from inside we heard "the noise" we raced out to see ...

this girl, who obviously didn't listen ...

in the hottest part of the day (47 deg!!!) lay her biggest egg yet (she is a bantam, doesn't she know!)

100gms of pure goodness

she's a legend that girl! One of my best layers (when she's not broody!) But seriously Ommie, take today off love!

Hot Hot Hot

It's going to be a scorcher weekend (41 tomorrow) We will be lying low, trying not to use too much energy. Lots of drinks and icy poles for us. I will be going outside hourly to hose down the chook pen, add more frozen bottles of water to the drinkers and around the coop. There will be some reading going on, maybe a nap for the two older members of the household.

Stay cool and safe everyone!

Marshmallow Slice

This was a huge hit that we whipped up the other night. It's the first time I've tried making marshmallow and it didn't turn out too bad!

There hasn't been much baking going on here lately with it being school holidays and too hot for the oven on any more than it needs to be.

Next time we will try some different colours for the marshmallow and some fancy schmancy toppings!

The Beach

Kate and I had to got to Amie's today to pick up Ella who had been staying over there for a couple of nights. so we usually tie it in with a trip to the beach as they live so close! Kate took her friend along too, and as you can see by the photos they all had a ball. The water was a little bit cool, but didn't stop the kids getting in.
