York

Today we did a day trip to York. We had never been before so it was exciting to see a bit of Western Australia that we hadn't seen before. It took us about an hour 20mins to get there, through lots of pleasant countryside.

It was a beautiful sunny day with a temperature of 35 deg. Still so warm for the end of April.
First we headed to the town hall for a look at the antique fair. We didn't buy anything but lots of people were buying.

The girls spotted this sign for face painting, so Phil took them while I carried on looking around.
 Kate chose a unicorn - what a fantastic job she did. She would have to be the best face painter I have seen around.

Ella was a cat. Isn't she beautiful?

After we finished there, we wandered along to another collectors market. It was so packed though, we didn't stay long. It looked like there was lots of good stuff though.

After we went for a walk along the main street. It's really gorgeous with most of the building restored to it's original beauty. Being Easter Saturday, the streets and shops very very busy.

The girls loved this display of Easter Bunnies and bits and pieces.

Down a little alley we discovered some more shops and some buskers. We later sat down here and ate lunch.

Then Kate discovered this lolly shop. And what a shop it was. So many different varieties. Kate was excited when she spotted the New Zealand lollies. We did buy some!

The girls spotted this place down a side street, so we wandered down there. I must say it was nice to get out of the heat for awhile and into the air conditioning. They chose a pair of socks each for winter.

By this stage we had all had enough of the shops and people, so headed to a park right beside the town. The girls quickly made some new friends to play chasey with.

While Phil watched the girls play I headed across this bridge to see what was on the other side.

I found this beautifl old church and a few houses. No one was around anywhere, it was very deserted!

Back in the car, we drove off to a lookout, to get a good view overlooking York. It was so hot up there though and very very windy. Nearly blew Kate off a big rick!

Off to another park with a bit more nature. It was very very dry. No rain here for many months by the looks of things. The girls found a small playground, but had much more fun playing on a log nearby. Big people enjoyed it too.

Once we had all had enough of this (the flies were getting really annoying) we decided it was time to set off home. Kate asked if we could stop and look at the school before we left. York only has one school, even though it is called a high school it goes from K-12 (Kindy to Year 12) We had a good look around (and a play) and decided it was a very nice school. There was lots of construction work going on, it will be even better when it's all finished.

Kate spotted the National Anthem words in the undercover area. What a great idea!

We all agreed this was a lovely spot outside the library to sit.

Pretend Play

We've been enjoying a day at home today. A day away from the hustle and bustle of work and school, dancing and playdates, shopping and errands. Good Friday is a great day to do not much, but enjoy each others company. We all slept in until around 8am, which is very late for us. The morning was warm when we rose and the day got warmer and warmer. It reached 33 deg, so quite warm still for late April.
Not long after breakfast the girls decided to get out all the little people of various families, push the doll house into the lounge room and set up house. Here they continued to play for six (yes you read that right) hours!

Who said 8 and 9 year old were too old for this kind of play?

Certainly NOT mine!!!

Isn't it nice that they play so well together. Well mostly they do.

Here we can see inside the Sylvanian Caravan the girls got for Christmas. It comes with a green car, for towing of course. It gets alot of use. It has a cool bathroom with a toilet, a kitchen that has teeny tiny drawers that open, and plenty of beds for everyone. It's been a wondeful present providing hours of imaginative play. I'll be sad when they outgrow all this, lucky there are the grandkids to enjoy it later on.

While the girls played, Phil and I worked outside. We have a kerbside collection next week, so we cleaned out the shed and got rid of a lot of junk, mowed the lawns, chopped some trees and did a general garden clean-up. I made some delicious meatballs and veges for dinner. The girls played some more with the caravan and little figurines after tea. I love days when we are all together with no rushing around.

We have a winner

Every Easter the school runs a competition on their website to find hidden eggs which then leads to a password. Last year their were too many mistakes on the website so no winners. The competition was first held in 2009 and Ella was one of four winners. Today she was one of four winners again. Lucky girl.

School Excursion

 Today the Year 3's went on an excursion to Sci-tech. My girls love to go there and we usually go once or twice a year. I had a small group , Ella, Erin and Blake. It was easy to keep track of 3 kids. That's the good thing about plenty of parent helpers. The kids all had a great time, which was clearly shown by at least 10 kids falling asleep on the bus on the way back. Very funny. What was even funnier was the bus driver stopped to drop us off at the wrong school until a parent sitting behind him put him right. (he wasn't the same driver who drove us in)

Kalamunda Show

 Today we went to the Kalamunda Show as they girls were performing - both in ballet and Kate in singing as well. It was a very hot day 34 deg and really hot standing in the sun watching. They did really well though. It's always a proud moment to watch them perform.

We watched the Perth Angels compete - the are in the top 5 teams for Australia and head to the World champs in less than a week. It is a mixture of acrobatics, cheerleading, gymnastics and dance.
